Notes from Pastor Mike...
Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Minnesota Morris (LCM Morris) has made three big moves over the past year in your young adult ministry that you faithfully support.
The first is to move the worship service from Thursday nights to Sunday nights. This has turned out to be a great move as the Sunday night worship while growing slowing is serving the campus community as an alternative worship time for students. This worship service is also totally student lead outside of the items Pastor Mike is required to do by the ELCA. We see the promise for this service and the fact that it is all driven by the student body.
The second is to turn the Thursday night meal into a time of safe and open conversation. We did this because it became ob-vious to us that the transition from the meal to worship was a barrier to those that may want to engage in conversation but not be in a place to “worship” yet. This change has had a pro-found effect on the ministry done at this time as the attendance of the Thursday Dollar Dinner event has doubled in weekly attendance.
The third would be the recognition of the LCM Morris site (Christus House) as not a personal residents but rather a minis-try site open to the whole student population. This was done by a heightened word of mouth campaign by Student Leaders, Board Members and Pastor Mike along with taking care of some visibility issue like updating signage.
Focusing on these three points has helped to strengthen the ministry of LCM Morris (Your supported young adult minis-try) and to make the ministry more accessible and visible to the larger campus community. LCM-Morris has seen an increase in interaction with young adults in the past year from previous years and for this we have been blessed.
